Young Audiences NJ & Eastern PA
Roster Artist Application Form

Please fill out this application form as completely as possible. If we feel your skills match our current needs, we will contact you at that time. New artist applications are reviewed throughout the year, and all applications are kept on file.

At the time of this writing, YA is primarily providing in-person programs to school in our region. If you would instead like to apply to our virtual roster, please submit the form found here

After completing the form, please submit the following support materials to artistsubmissions@yanjep.org:

  1. A current resume. Please include your education background and experience working with children.
  2. An artist statement. Tell us about yourself as an artist, your artwork, your discipline (list all if more than one), your work with children, and why you want to be a Young Audiences teaching artist.
  3. A program/workshop description.
    1. For Assembly Artists: An assembly program summary. Please include appropriate grade levels for your program.
    2. For Workshop/Residency Artists: Sample lesson plans for a one-day workshop and a multiple-day workshop. Please include any supplies you might need along with a list of fees for supplies, and appropriate grade levels for your program.
    3. A sample professional development lesson plan (if applicable).
  4. Samples of your artwork.
    1. For Assembly Artists: Video of an entire assembly performance in front of children (if available). This can be an un-edited DVD or a link to online video (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.). If you don’t have a full assembly video, please send whatever performance video in front of children you have.
    2. For Workshop/Residency Artists: 5 personal examples, 5 student examples, if available (please provide all photos in JPG format).
  5. Contact information for two professional references.

Audition Process

Once a YA staff member views your application and reaches out with interest, the process for being accepted to the roster is:

1. Take part in an initial interest conversation via email or phone, including potential questions or clarification of application.

2. Audition for two or more YA staff that consists of a sample performance or a sample workshop/residency session. (45 minutes of material, in either case.)

  • The artist may arrange an audition show for a student audience or invite YA to an existing scheduled date.
  • YA will also review suitable high quality video of either a full workshop session or full performance before a student audience.
  • If the artist is not able to offer either video or a live opportunity to view their work, YA can sometimes arrange an unpaid audition performance with one of our school partners depending on school availability and staff capacity.

3. Receive feedback by YA staff on program audition via email or phone conversation.

4. Depending on feedback and staff response to the audition/current programming priorities, program will either be 1) accepted to the roster, 2) deferred until feedback is applied and documentation of changes provided either in writing, video, or subsequent audition as determined by YA, 3) not accepted for roster inclusion.

Note: if YA is not satisfied with the application of feedback, YA may decline to offer roster inclusion or provide further feedback to be incorporated before a roster offer is extended.
